Loss of Scapulohumeral Motion (Frozen Shoulder)
Duplay (1896) was the first investigator to recognize pathologic disorders of extra-articular tissues as possible factors responsible for stiff and painful shoulders. It was his belief that an inflammatory process of the subacromial bursa was the causative agent producing this syndrome. He designated the entity ‘‘scapulohumeral periarthritis.’’ Soon this term came to include a host of heterogen...
متن کاملBilateral Arm-Abduction Shoulder Radiography to Determine the Involvement of the Scapulothoracic Motion in Frozen Shoulder
Background: We hypothesize that there is no difference in the motion of the scapula with respect to the thoracic wall (scapulothoracic interface) between the affected versus non-affected shoulder on 0° and 90° standard arm abduction radiography. Methods: We enrolled 30 patients with the diagnosis of unilateral frozen shoulder after ruling out of other pathologies. Bilateral standard should...
متن کاملFrozen shoulder and lipids.
We prospectively studied 50 patients with the diagnosis of primary frozen shoulder. The serum lipid levels were measured in 43 of these patients and compared with those in 43 age-matched and sex-matched control subjects. The fasting serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels were significantly elevated in the frozen-shoulder group (cholesterol p < 0.01; triglyceride p < 0.02).

Thirty-five patients with a diagnosis of frozen shoulder were randomly allocated to an exercise group or an exercise plus acupuncture group and treated for a period of 6 weeks. Functional mobility, power, and pain were assessed by a blinded assessor using the Constant...

their rehabilitation. passive range of motion. The main treatment involves proper shoulder exercises and joint mobilization to break up adhesions at the joint capsules and improve joint mobility and functions. However, due to a lack of persistence, not all patients complete rehabilitation. To address this, we created a virtual reality game-based treatment system that encourages patients to part...
